Sunscreen for Microbladed Brows: What to Use and What to Avoid

Just got your brows microbladed? The sun is not your friend right now. Fresh brows are extra sensitive, and UV rays can mess with your pigment before it ever gets a chance to settle in. If you're around Thousand Oaks and want your results to last, sun protection is a must.
Why Sun Can Fade Your New Brows
Microbladed skin needs time to recover. Sunlight can break down pigment, cause patchiness, and slow healing. Even sweat can make things worse by moving pigment around. Your best bet is to keep your brows cool, dry, and out of direct sunlight until they're fully healed.
Protecting Brows While Healing
Don't let your brows see the sun for the first 7 to 14 days. If you absolutely have to be outside, wear a hat or find shade, and keep those brows covered. Don't use sunscreen or any skincare product on them unless your brow artist says it's okay. Stick to the ointments or healing balms they gave you. Skip sweaty workouts or saunas. Sweat can push pigment out or cause irritation.

When It's Safe to Use Sunscreen
Once your brows are fully healed (usually after two weeks, but always go by your artist's instructions), daily sunscreen is a good habit. It keeps your pigment looking fresh and helps prevent fading. Pick something gentle and mineral-based, since that's less likely to irritate your skin.
Mineral Sunscreens for Healed Brows
Go for fragrance-free, mineral formulas with broad-spectrum protection. These are gentle on skin and do the job without causing issues. Here are some I often recommend:
- If you want a simple option, EltaMD UV Pure Face and Body Sunscreen is mineral-based, lightweight, and doesn't leave a heavy residue.
- For sensitive skin or if you're in and out of water, Blue Lizard Sensitive Mineral SPF 50 is water-resistant and fragrance-free.
- If you like something hydrating that won't leave a white cast, Round Lab Birch Juice Moisturizing SPF 45 is a daily favorite, especially for those who want a barely there feel.
- For a little glow, Supergoop! Mineral Glowscreen SPF 40 adds a subtle sheen and shields your brows from UV rays.
Dab sunscreen gently around your brows, not straight on top, especially if you wear makeup. Let it sink in before adding anything else.
What to Avoid
- Don't use chemical sunscreens or any new products on healing brows unless your artist says so.
- Avoid anything oily, fragranced, or heavy, since these can irritate your skin or mess with the pigment.
- Never put sunscreen or any skincare directly on scabbing or broken skin.
Quick FAQ
Can I use my regular sunscreen on my brows? Once healed, yes, as long as it's mineral and fragrance-free. On fresh brows, wait for your artist's go-ahead.
How long do I need to keep my brows out of the sun? At least 7 to 14 days, or until all healing is done.
Will sunscreen stop my brows from fading? It helps slow fading, but some change over time is normal.
What if I have to be outside before my brows heal? Wear a hat and keep your brows shaded. Don't use sunscreen until you're fully healed.
Can sweating affect my brows after microblading? Yes. Sweat can move pigment or slow healing, so take it easy on workouts until you're in the clear.
